NutraCheck

Description:

Nutracheck is a fee-based online/mobile food and exercise diary. The program creates a personal daily calorie target based on the personal information you provide. You are then encouraged to complete a daily food diary (that links to a database of food-items) to calculate your calorie intake and an exercise diary that similarly calculates of your expended energy. You can track your progress with various weight charts and reports. An online forum is also available and you can email questions to an expert. You can access the program from a computer and you can download a barcode scanning Android or iPhone app to access it from your mobile phone.

Outcome Summary:

One study has examined the effectiveness of the Nutracheck program. The study involved a retrospective analysis of individuals who joined the program between 2005-2008. The findings showed that male participants lost significantly more weight than female, and this was also true specifically among overweight/obese participants. Additionally, the frequency of use of the food and exercise diaries and message postings on the online forum were associated with weight loss. Thus, there is some evidence that this program can be an effective tool in the promotion of weight loss - but such evidence requires a controlled study to provide a stronger conclusion.
