Outcome Summary:

The development of this web-based pain management progrm was supported by the US National Institutes of Health.  Long and Palermo (2009) evaluated the acceptability of the website in recovered and treatment seeking adolescents and their parents.  The participants rated the acceptability of the program moderate to strong.  An RCT was run comparing the program to a wait-list control group.  Their findings demonstrated a significantly greater reduction in activity limitations and pain intensity at post treatment for the treatment group.  These effects were maintained at 3 month follow up.  A significantly greater number of the treatment group achieved a clinically significant improvement in pain (38.5% compared to 13.6%).  There were no significant differences in depression.
